The Mondial des Vins Extrêmes is the most important oenological competition, reserved for wines produced in mountain regions or from extreme crops: altitude greater than 500 meters, slope of the land greater than 30% (in areas of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra it is possible to reach 80%) or viticultural terrace cultivation systems).

D.O. Ribeira Sacra is a world reference in what is called heroic viticulture, a name that is reached due to orographic conditions that do not allow mechanization, small-sized vineyards usually organized on terraces; adverse weather conditions or/and because the vineyard is located in geographical areas with landscapes of great beauty and with touristic character.
